The former Mayor of Freetown City Council Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has spoken on the relationship between the Central government and the Local Government and called on citizens to vote for her and Dr. Samura Kamara in the June 24th, 2023 elections.

Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr made this statement on the AYV Good Morning Sierra Leone program.

Yvonne when asked if she will prefer the people votes for Mohamed Gento Kamara if President Bio happens to win the election again to avoid her previous challenges stated that Sierra Leone is a multi-party State and what is been offered by a candidate should be able to be assessed on the candidate experience, commitment, integrity, and ability to deliver.

She also stated that the relationship between the Central Government and the Local Government should be held in the context of a multi-party democracy as political differences should be put aside after election periods.

She continued that after the election period, she was willing, ready, and committed to work for Sierra Leoneans but found herself in a difficult situation.

She gave instances of some of her challenges stating that her political party was referred to as terrorists.

She said revenue collection was stopped in 2020 after the council introduced the New Revenue Property Rate Reforms to increase revenue for the council to help them deliver effectively.

She also mentioned different investigations and inquiries she went through and called on citizens to vote for her and Dr. Samura. Kamara for a better Freetown and Sierra Leone at large.
