Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francess Alghali, has been approved by ECOWAS heads of state to serve as Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security for a four-year term.

Alghali will oversee democratic governance, conflict prevention, and security coordination across West Africa.

Her appointment comes as the region faces challenges including unconstitutional changes of government, electoral disputes, and cross-border security threats.

The position strengthens Sierra Leone’s voice within the regional bloc and reflects the country’s commitment to regional cooperation.
