Police Family Support Unit Engages Pupils in Mattru Jong on Sexual Offences
Aminata Koroma The Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police, Bonthe Division, on Monday sensitised pupils and teachers of the Saint Joseph Technical and Vocational Secondary School (SJTVSS) in Mattru Jong on sexual and school-related offences.
Addressing the school during morning devotion, FSU Commander, Detective Sub-Inspector Adama Voonu Sowa, educated pupils on the key provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2012, as amended in 2019. She outlined major offences including sexual penetration, sexual touching, sexual harassment, and early marriage.
D/SI Sowa urged pupils to stay focused on their education, stressing that “girls should be girls and not mothers, while boys should be boys and not fathers.”
Supporting the engagement, Detective Sergeant 9385 Sinnah J., Non-Commissioned Officer Crime, reminded pupils that sexual and school-related offences carry severe punishments with no exceptions for students. She encouraged them to remain disciplined and law-abiding.
In his response, the Principal of Saint Joseph Technical and Vocational Secondary School, Mr. Thomas Lahai Sowonie, thanked the FSU team for what he described as a timely and important awareness session. He appealed for more of such engagements to guide pupils and keep them away from crime.
