President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone on August 2, 2026, for an official State Visit at the invitation of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
The high-level diplomatic engagement is aimed at deepening bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Gabon while exploring new opportunities for cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, governance, and sustainable development.
During the visit, discussions are expected to focus on strengthening collaboration across critical sectors such as agriculture, mining, technology, education, and energy, as both countries seek to expand economic and diplomatic partnerships.
The visit follows President Bio’s previous engagement with Gabon, where he sought to promote stronger economic cooperation and encourage investment opportunities between the two countries.
Since assuming office, President Bio has placed emphasis on economic diversification, regional cooperation, and strengthening international partnerships. As Chair of the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10), he has also continued to advocate for reforms to the United Nations Security Council, including permanent African representation.
President Oligui Nguema’s visit will mark his first official trip to Sierra Leone since becoming President of Gabon. His administration has focused on national unity, education reforms, and addressing youth unemployment.
While in Freetown, President Nguema is expected to hold bilateral discussions with senior government officials and business leaders on areas of mutual interest and investment opportunities. He is also scheduled to visit selected cultural and heritage sites.
The State Visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Freetown and Libreville while creating new momentum for increased trade, investment, and regional cooperation.
