The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA) has held a high-level consultation with representatives of the World Bank to discuss ways of strengthening child protection and safety in Sierra Leone.
The engagement, led by the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, focused on strengthening inclusive child protection frameworks across schools, homes, and communities.
Representatives from the Kids Parliament and the Children’s Forum Network (CFN) also participated in the consultation, providing an opportunity for children and young advocates to raise concerns about safety challenges they face and present recommendations to government officials and development partners.
During the meeting, the Minister outlined ongoing reforms and cross-sectoral interventions being implemented in collaboration with various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), with support from the World Bank Group.
The initiatives are aimed at addressing vulnerabilities affecting children, reducing risks of violence, and strengthening institutional mechanisms for responding to the needs of vulnerable children.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to developing and implementing inclusive child protection reforms.
“The Ministry remains fully committed to developing, strengthening, and implementing inclusive reforms,” the Ministry stated, adding that its goal is to ensure that every child in Sierra Leone is “safe, protected, heard, and empowered to thrive.”
The consultation forms part of broader efforts to strengthen child protection systems and ensure that children’s concerns are reflected in policies and programmes affecting their well-being.
