Government Moves to Increase Benefits for Mining Host Communities in Sierra Leone
Sahid Bangura The Government has announced that it is at an advanced stage of developing a comprehensive framework to ensure that mining host communities receive greater benefits from Sierra Leone’s natural resources.
Speaking at the Government’s Weekly Press Conference in Freetown, Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Ambassador Tamba John Lamina, said the initiative is designed to channel mining revenues into tangible community development projects.
He explained that priority areas will include roads, electricity and water supply in communities affected by mining activities.
The Minister also commended President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for introducing legislation that allocates one percent of mining revenues directly to host communities, describing the measure as an important step toward inclusive and equitable development.
Government says the new framework will strengthen accountability and improve the impact of mining revenues on local development.
Mmmmmm. Interesting. Same land, Same Sierra Leone. Minister Lamina what about the other provinces that have no mining places. Are they going to benefits from this good news. All those exploiters their communities and counties have electricities and water. Can Solima, Malela, etc etc will benefits from those mining revenues. I just want to know. Peace, respect and love.
