The Government of Sierra Leone has today 31 May 2022 announced the annual suspension of timber logging and transportation of logs, effective 10th June and ending 31st October 2022.

The announcement was made during a meeting between the Ministers of Information, Trade and Internal Affairs and stakeholders in the sector to discuss the pending ban on timber logging.

“All logging and transportation of timber products are suspended for five months,” Panda Noah, Minister of Internal Affairs, declares at the meeting.


Deputy Minister of Trade, Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara and Minister of Internal Affairs, Panda Noah, cited economic, environmental and security risks for the declaration of a ban on timber logging for the duration of the rainy season.
