Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, has arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, to take part in the 78th World Health Assembly, which runs from May 19 to May 27, 2025. He is leading the Sierra Leone delegation at the event.

Dr. Demby is joined by Dr. Sartie Mohamed Kenneh, Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, along with other officials. The team is set to take part in key meetings with representatives from other countries.

The Assembly will bring together member states of the World Health Organization to discuss global health systems and ways to improve healthcare delivery around the world.

During the event, the Sierra Leone delegation is expected to hold talks with other nations to seek support for changes aimed at strengthening the country’s health policies. This follows the commitment Sierra Leone made during last year’s Assembly to improve its healthcare system and address health challenges both locally and globally.

Upon arrival at Geneva International Airport, Dr. Demby and his team were welcomed by Mr. Edward Kawa, Head of Chancery and Minister Counsellor at Sierra Leone’s Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

More updates are expected as the Assembly continues over the coming days.
