ICPNC Mobilizes 16 Districts for Nationwide Peace Walk, Urges Unity and Reconciliatio
The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC-SL) has called on Sierra Leoneans to strengthen unity, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence as the country joined the global commemoration of the International Day of Peace.
The call was made during a nationwide peace walk held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, under the theme “Our Walk, One Voice for Sierra Leone.”
The initiative brought together Government representatives, security personnel, diplomats, peace advocates and members of the public in Freetown, while similar peace-walking activities were conducted across all 16 districts of the country.
In Freetown, participants from the eastern part of the city assembled at Up-Gun Roundabout, while those from the western part gathered at the Cotton Tree in central Freetown.
The two groups subsequently walked through various streets of the capital before converging at Kallon Park at Lumley Beach, where the nationwide peace initiative continued.
The ICPNC said the activity was aimed at promoting peace, unity and national cohesion while encouraging citizens to embrace reconciliation and work together towards a more peaceful Sierra Leone.
The nationwide mobilisation formed part of efforts to use the International Day of Peace as an opportunity to strengthen public awareness about the importance of peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility for sustaining peace.
With participation extending across all 16 districts, the peace walk brought together citizens from different backgrounds around a common message of unity and reconciliation.
