IGP Fayia Sellu Departs Freetown for INTERPOL Conference in South Africa
Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, has left Freetown for Cape Town, South Africa, where he will participate in the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference scheduled for 27–29 August 2025.
As Chairman of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), IGP Sellu is expected to deliver a keynote presentation on the theme “Cybercrime and the Response from West Africa” under the broader agenda “The Fight Against Transnational Cybercrime in Africa.”
His address will highlight regional strategies and emphasize the pivotal role of West African security institutions in tackling the growing menace of cybercrime.
The INTERPOL African Regional Conference, held every two years, remains a key platform for senior law enforcement leaders across the continent. It provides space for the exchange of ideas, review of policing strategies, and reinforcement of cross-border collaboration in combating organized and transnational crime.
Mr. Sellu’s participation signals Sierra Leone’s increasing visibility in global security engagements. It also underscores the government’s proactive approach, under the leadership of His Excellency Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in responding to emerging regional security challenges.
