In a high-profile defamation case now before Sierra Leone’s High Court, businessman Kobi Walker has filed a defamation lawsuit against Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, accusing him of circulating false and damaging information through social media and audio recordings.
Walker, the former CEO of NP-SL Ltd, argues that Mansaray’s allegations, released in February 2025, unjustly associate him with a drug trafficking conspiracy and financial malfeasance relating to the purchase of Sierra Rutile Limited. Mansaray’s audio files and posts, including allegations of drug dealing and cash laundering, have caused enormous damage to Walker’s reputation and economic interests.
The claims came on February 2 and 3, 2025, when Mansaray made a Facebook post and shared a WhatsApp audio recording. The businessman is suspected of assisting the illegal acquisition of Sierra Rutile, including profits out of a cocaine trafficking syndicate. Mansaray further claimed that Walker was hiding a notorious drug dealer at his under construction resort close to York Village.
Walker’s legal team is seeking lots of remedies, including a court judgment that Mansaray’s activities are libelous.
i. A public retraction and apology released in three major national publications.
ii. Compensation for the reputational harm caused by defamatory allegations.
iii. An injunction to prevent Mansaray from making any additional defamatory statements.
iv. The removal of the relevant social media posts.
Jones, Bittar & Davies Law Firm issued the writ of summons on February 6, 2025, and it was served to Mansaray, who is now living in the United States. The court ordered Mansaray to reply within 14 days or face having the case heard in his absence.
Walker’s legal team alleges that Mansaray’s allegations are completely false and have caused severe discomfort, both professionally and emotionally. The claims concerning the acquisition of Sierra Rutile, especially those putting Walker in illegal actions, have been forcefully refuted by the businessman.
The court has set up a preliminary hearing, and both sides are anticipated to present their reasons in the following weeks. This legal struggle could set an example for future defamation cases that involve social media in the region.
