Labour Minister Inspects National Stadium Rehabilitation Site
Morlai Ibrahim Kamara The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray , on a visit to the National Stadium Rehabilitation Site, to assess work environment and conditions of workers; as well as remind workers of their rights and responsibilities.
This visit come following recent strike by the workers demanding pay rise and better working environment from the Chinese Construction company.
The project contracted by China’s Gansu Construction Investment Holding Group Limited is expected to last for two years.
The renovation project which will touch the stands, the pitch, scoreboard, volleyball and basketball courts, among other facilities is expected to be completed in 2024.
The rehabilitation comes after Africa’s football governing body, CAF banned the stadium saying it does not match international standards to host matches there. According to CAF, the stadium which was constructed in 1979 is in a poor state and so far it has been the main venue for all senior international matches in Sierra Leone since its construction.
