The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders in the labour sector following a courtesy visit by the Sierra Leone Employers Federation (SLEF) to the Minister, Hon. Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq.

The meeting, held at the Minister’s office, brought together members of the SLEF executive and senior officials of the Ministry, including the Commissioner of Labour. The engagement provided an opportunity for discussions on issues affecting employers, workers and the broader labour environment in Sierra Leone.

Welcoming the delegation, Minister Koroma expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the Federation’s role in supporting the development of the country’s labour sector. He emphasized the importance of sustained engagement between government, employers and workers within the tripartite labour framework.

The Minister stated that his priority is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of Sierra Leone’s labour laws, particularly the Employment Act. He noted that strengthening cooperation would be critical to addressing challenges within the employment sector and improving labour relations nationwide.

“My intention, and I have made it very clear from day one, is to work together with you to see how we can implement the provisions of this Act,” he said.

Representatives of the Employers Federation reaffirmed their readiness to support the Ministry’s efforts, highlighting their continued engagement within the tripartite system alongside the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the government. They also outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the Federation’s capacity and participation in labour-related activities.

The Ministry underscored the importance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated action in advancing policies that promote fair labour practices, protect workers’ rights and support business growth.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to deepen partnerships with stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of labour governance in Sierra Leone.
