The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has dismissed as false a recruitment notice circulating on social media claiming to offer overseas employment opportunities for Sierra Leoneans in several European countries.
In a public notice issued on 3 August 2026, the Ministry clarified that the document did not originate from the Ministry and should be treated as fake.
The fraudulent notice alleged that countries including Iceland, Latvia, Italy, Luxembourg, Greece, Finland, Sweden and Poland had requested skilled and unskilled workers from Sierra Leone through the Ministry.
It further claimed that 150 candidates were needed for each country and listed various job categories ranging from nurses and engineers to cleaners and general labourers.
The Ministry warned that the information was entirely false and urged the public not to engage with individuals or groups promoting the notice.
According to the Ministry, members of the public should rely only on official announcements issued through its recognized communication channels and should verify any recruitment information before submitting personal documents or making payments.
The Ministry also cautioned Sierra Leoneans to remain alert to online scams and fraudulent recruitment schemes designed to exploit job seekers.
It emphasized that no such overseas recruitment exercise has been announced by the Ministry and advised the public to disregard the circulating notice completely.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens from employment-related fraud and encouraged anyone with doubts about recruitment announcements to contact the Ministry directly for confirmation.
Be vigilant, verify first, and do not fall victim to fraud, the Ministry stated.
