The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, has disclosed that they have already secured land in Lungi Port Loko District for the construction of the new commercial city of Sierra Leone and that they have already engaged stakeholders in the district about the plan.

The Principal Accountant at the ministry, Moinia Kopoi, was speaking at the 2023 budget discussion at the Ministry of Finance where he stated that the current city has been,over populated and that with the construction of the new commercial city, it can help to decongest Freetown.

He said the ministry’ mandate is to ensure effective land, management and administration in a sustainable manner, ensuring equitable access to and control over lands, ensuring effective planning of towns, cities and providing affordable re housing with the view of alleviating poverty and promoting economic growth.

He presented that the ministry under its current leadership has done extremely well in the management of state lands across the country, thus calling for the Ministry of Finance to allocate NLe7,638,868 to help the ministry do more in their 2023 strategic an plan.

He said in their 2022 deliverables includes the development of national land bank su acquisition, registration of at least 100,000 acres of land in the Western Area and provinces in each district.

He said they also developed master plan for Western Area, Bo, Makeni, Kenema, Portloko, Bonth, Koidu and Sefadu and that they also developed land information system for cad astral and registration services and many others
