The Lawyers’ Society has reacted to the disruption of the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s (SLBA) 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), calling for restraint among members of the legal profession as tensions continue to surround the association’s electoral process.
In a brief statement shared following Friday’s interruption of the AGM, the Lawyers’ Society quoted scripture, stating: “The LORD will fight for you, while you hold your peace.” — Exodus 14:14.
The statement comes amid renewed controversy within the Bar Association, with the Lawyers’ Society recalling the circumstances that led to its formation following the disputed outcome of the 2024 SLBA Annual General Meeting.
The Society was established after the 2024 election, which was heavily disputed by some members of the legal fraternity and resulted in the election of Adama Tuma Jabbie as President of the Bar Association.
Since its formation, the Lawyers’ Society has positioned itself as a platform advocating for transparency, accountability, and reforms within the legal profession.
The latest disruption at the 2026 AGM has revived concerns over divisions within the Bar, as lawyers await further developments on the election process and the future direction of the association.
