The long-awaited Lungi Bridge project is expected to be constructed by U.S.-based bridge engineering and infrastructure company Acrow Corporation, according to U.S. Ambassador-designate to Sierra Leone Daniel Travis.

Travis disclosed the information during his confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stating that Sierra Leone has reached an agreement with Acrow Corporation for the construction of the proposed bridge.

The project is expected to establish a direct road connection between Freetown and Lungi, where the Freetown International Airport is located, potentially improving the movement of people and goods between the capital and the airport.

The proposed bridge has been part of Sierra Leone’s long-standing infrastructure plans, with successive administrations exploring options to improve connectivity between Freetown and Lungi.

If implemented, the project could significantly reduce reliance on water transport for travel between Freetown and Lungi while improving access to the country’s main international gateway.

However, as of the time of this report, the reported agreement with Acrow Corporation has not been independently confirmed by a Sierra Leonean government official.

Details regarding the project’s financing, construction timeline, scope of works and implementation arrangements have also not yet been officially disclosed.
