President Julius Maada Bio has hosted a delegation from the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce at State House, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between Government and the private sector to promote economic growth and sustainable development.
The delegation, led by the President of the Chamber, Modupe Taylor-Pearce, paid a courtesy call on the Head of State and congratulated him on the achievements of his administration.
The Chamber also commended President Bio for maintaining regular engagement with private sector institutions, describing the dialogue as evidence of Government’s commitment to building a diversified, competitive, and inclusive economy.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Taylor-Pearce thanked President Bio for granting the Chamber an audience and said the gesture reflected the importance the Government attaches to the role of the private sector in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and improving livelihoods.
He noted that the Chamber has for decades served as the principal platform through which businesses engage Government on key policy matters, including trade, industrialisation, taxation, export promotion, investment, and infrastructure development.
Mr Taylor-Pearce added that the Chamber represents businesses operating in sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, transport, construction, and other services. He also pledged the Chamber’s support for the forthcoming West Africa Integration and Investment Summit, describing it as an important initiative for private sector participation and regional economic cooperation.
Responding to the delegation, President Bio reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to supporting the Chamber and strengthening its institutional role in national development. The President said his vision is to build the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce into a strong and credible institution through which businesses can effectively engage Government on matters affecting the private sector.
He acknowledged the concerns and challenges raised by the Chamber and assured members that his administration would address them in a systematic manner. President Bio described the Chamber as a critical partner in advancing private sector development and creating an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
The meeting forms part of the Government’s ongoing engagement with private sector stakeholders aimed at deepening collaboration, promoting enterprise development, and accelerating inclusive and sustainable economic transformation in Sierra Leone.
