Liberian Authorities Seize Over USD 112,000 Worth of Tramadol Allegedly Traveling from Sierra Leone
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) on Saturday October 11, 2025, intercepted more than 1,000 packs of Tapentadol, commonly known as Tramadol, at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry.
Authorities recovered 1,067 packs of the drug, valued at USD 112,315.78 (LRD 21,340,000), hidden inside two white slipper bags.
The consignment was found with 38-year-old Liberian national Mohammed M. Sheriff, who was reportedly traveling from Freetown, Sierra Leone, to Monrovia.
The LDEA credited the seizure to routine inspections supported by credible intelligence, along with technical assistance from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Liberia.
“The Agency remains committed to safeguarding Liberia’s borders and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs,” said LDEA officials. Sheriff is being held pending further legal action under Liberian law.
