The Hon. Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs and Head of Delegation Madam Manty Tarawalli has safely arrived in New York together with Sierra Leone’s delegation to the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) scheduled to commence tomorrow 6th March 2023.
CSW is a yearly Gender Conference hosted by the United Nations for Member States, UN Entities and Civil Society Organizations to present and discuss gains in the previous year on women’s rights and empowerment. This year, Sierra Leone will present its groundbreaking Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act 2022, the first in anglophone West Africa. Similarly, the country will host three side events and participate in several discussions by sister countries.
The Hon. Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs Madam Manty Tarawalli through her remarkable work has been selected to deliver the African Statement for this year’s CSW. This will be followed by Sierra Leone’s Statement at a later date. The theme for this year’s CSW is “Innovation and Technology Change, and Education in the Digital Age for Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of all Women and Girls.” The conference is from 6th to 17th March 2023 in New York.
Sierra Leone’s delegation includes the Minister of Social Welfare Madam Baindu Dassama who will be having bilateral meetings on social welfare issues to support and strengthen her Ministry’s work especially for women and vulnerable groups.
