The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has released a proposed price list for school items for the 2026/2027 academic year, outlining the proposed costs of approved items for Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in public schools across Sierra Leone.

The document, issued from the Ministry’s office in New England, Freetown, and stamped by the Basic Education Commission, sets out proposed prices for boys and girls, with separate categories for Muslim and Christian students.

According to the proposed list:

JSS & SSS Boys

  • Pocket badge: Le 20.00
  • Neck tie (not mandatory): Le 50.00
  • JSS sewn uniform – two sets with badges: Le 450.00
  • SSS sewn uniform – two sets with badges: Le 500.00

JSS & SSS Girls (Muslim)

  • Hijab: Le 75.00
  • Pocket badge: Le 20.00
  • Sewn uniform – two sets with badges: Le 450.00

JSS Girls (Christian)

  • Beret and crest: Le 90.00
  • Belt: Le 90.00
  • Pocket badge: Le 20.00
  • Sewn uniform – two sets with badges: Le 450.00

SSS Girls (Christian)

  • Felt hat and band: Le 210.00
  • Belt: Le 90.00
  • Pocket badge: Le 20.00
  • Sewn uniform – two sets with badges: Le 450.00

The Ministry notes that the neck tie for boys is “not mandatory.”

As the prices are presented as proposed, schools, parents and guardians may await further clarification from the Ministry regarding their final approval and implementation for the 2026/2027 academic year.
