MBSSE and SEND Sierra Leone Roll Out Pikin Tab Learning Program in Kenema District
Sahid Bangura SEND Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), has officially launched and conducted the rollout training for the Pikin Tab learning program in Kenema District, with support from Imagine Worldwide.
According to SEND Sierra Leone, the launch took place last week and marked the beginning of a three-day teacher training and stakeholder engagement session aimed at strengthening digital learning and improving foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes in early grade classrooms.
SEND Sierra Leone stated that the training brought together educators, local authorities, and key education stakeholders from across the district.
The organization explained that the sessions were designed to equip teachers with practical skills to effectively integrate tablets into daily classroom instruction, monitor pupil progress, and enhance overall learning outcomes.
Representatives from the Teaching Service Commission, the District Council, local authorities, and the Sierra Leone Police participated in the engagement.
SEND Sierra Leone noted that their presence reinforced the importance of collaboration, safeguarding, and community engagement in delivering quality education services.
During the training, teachers reportedly engaged in hands-on demonstrations using the tablets, explored lesson content, and discussed strategies for effective classroom management.
Discussions also focused on asset protection and the establishment of community-based complaint mechanisms to ensure accountability and proper use of the devices.
SEND Sierra Leone emphasized that through the training, educators in Kenema District are now better positioned to deliver engaging, technology-driven lessons that strengthen literacy and numeracy skills among early grade pupils.
The organization maintained that the initiative is intended to ensure that pupils across the district benefit from more interactive, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences.
The Pikin Tab learning program forms part of broader efforts by SEND Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education to expand access to quality digital education and improve foundational learning outcomes in Sierra Leone.
