Mines Minister Warns Public Against Fake Facebook Accounts
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Julius Daniel Mattai, has warned the public against four fake Facebook accounts allegedly using his name, photographs and official titles to impersonate him.
In a public disclaimer, Mattai distanced himself and his office from the unauthorised accounts, which reportedly operate under the names “Julius Daniel Mattai” and “Julius Mattai”.
The Minister cautioned that the use of his name, photographs and official titles on the accounts does not make them authentic. He urged members of the public not to treat any statements, offers, promises or requests made through the accounts as genuine communications from him or the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources.
The warning was directed at the general public, domestic and international investors, mining companies and development partners, whom the Minister urged to exercise caution when engaging with accounts claiming to represent him.
Mattai also called on those responsible to immediately stop impersonating him, warning against the alleged use of the accounts to solicit money, spread misinformation or damage his professional reputation.
He further warned that those involved could face law enforcement action and prosecution under Sierra Leonean law.
The Minister urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid engaging with the accounts, refrain from sending money and report suspicious profiles through the appropriate channels.
