The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, has received the first batch of 61,300 doses of the MVA-BN Mpox vaccines.

This allocation was facilitated through Africa CDC, CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF, WHO, and other global health partners.

In an effort to contain the disease and prevent further outbreaks in Sierra Leone, the country is one of 12 that has benefited from the vaccines. vaccines will be prioritized for healthcare workers, vulnerable communities, and outbreak-prone areas across the country. This step aims to solidify the government’s efforts through the Ministry of Health in containing the disease and preventing further outbreaks.

The vaccines are recommended for individuals 12 years and above. The minister highlighted the significant step forward the government has taken in the battle against the disease. On January 13, the government declared Mpox a public health emergency as part of a range of measures to control and end the outbreak in the country.
