The Cargo Terminal at Freetown International Airport will be temporarily closed for three days, from 17 to 19 July 2026, as authorities implement security and operational measures ahead of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit.
The announcement was made by the National Revenue Authority (NRA) in a public notice issued on 9 July 2026, informing cargo clients, importers, exporters, clearing agents, other stakeholders, and the general public of the temporary suspension of cargo operations during the period.
According to the NRA, all cargo handling services and related terminal operations will be suspended while the Cargo Terminal remains inaccessible to the public. The temporary closure is intended to support security and logistical arrangements for the regional summit, which Sierra Leone is set to host.
The Authority acknowledged that the temporary shutdown may inconvenience businesses and stakeholders that rely on cargo services but appealed for their patience, cooperation, and understanding as the necessary arrangements are carried out.
The NRA further assured the public that normal cargo handling services and terminal operations will resume on 20 July 2026.
Stakeholders seeking additional information have been advised to contact the Authority through its customer service line +232-80-839-839 or via email at [email protected].
