Government Needs More Money Than Ever Before – NRA Engages Customs Staff on Revenue Mobilisation
Aminata Koroma The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has reiterated the critical role of its Customs Services Department in boosting revenue mobilisation as Commissioner General Mr Abu Martin Kanneh commenced an internal familiarisation tour at Customs House, Cline Town, Freetown, on Monday, 28 September 2026.
The engagement brought together the NRA’s senior management and Customs staff to strengthen collaboration and reinforce the Authority’s efforts to meet its revenue mobilisation mandate.
Addressing staff, CG Kanneh highlighted his extensive experience within the Customs Department, noting that he started his career as a Collector and rose through the ranks to become Commissioner of Customs.
“I was here as the Commissioner of Customs, so I know the work you are doing. I am here now as Commissioner General, and I want us to work together to achieve the mandate of the NRA,” he said.
He said the Government’s demand for increased revenue, as emphasised by the Minister of Finance, requires strong support from Customs staff.
“The Government needs more revenue now than ever before. I am therefore calling on all of you at Customs to support us in that direction,” he stated.
Deputy Commissioner General I, Mrs Ann-Marie Baby Harding, urged staff to support the Commissioner General while emphasising discipline, professionalism and compliance with the law.
“There is no hiding place for anyone who wants to do otherwise,” she cautioned, urging staff to conduct themselves within the confines of the law.
Deputy Commissioner General II, Ing. Edmond Benjamin Nonie, challenged staff to focus on measurable results, while assuring them of an open-door approach to engagement.
“I am particular about results. We must be able to demonstrate what we are achieving. My door is open,” he said.
The Commissioner of Customs Services, Mr. Tennyson Bio, assured CG Kanneh of the continued support and cooperation of the Customs Services Department and called on staff to work with him in delivering on his mandate.
The engagement formed part of the NRA’s efforts to strengthen teamwork, improve collaboration between senior management and staff, and reinforce the role of Customs in advancing the Authority’s revenue mobilisation objectives.
