Orange Sierra Leone has donated 100 durable tarpaulins to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), through the Ministry of Social Welfare, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
The donation aims to address the critical need for shelter assistance among persons with disabilities, particularly during the rainy season.
Piloya Grace Nollah, Director of Hands-on Development and Social Transformation at NCPD, highlighted the urgent need for support, recalling numerous complaints of leaky roofs and flooding in shelters housing persons with disabilities during the previous rainy season. This prompted the NCPD to seek assistance from Orange Sierra Leone.
The official handover ceremony took place on Friday, February 28th, 2025, at the Ministry of Social Welfare’s conference room in New England, Freetown. Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, representatives from the NCPD, Orange Sierra Leone, and members of the disability community were present.
Orange Sierra Leone emphasized their commitment to “making meaningful impact by supporting inclusive development and social welfare initiatives to build a more resilient and empowered society.”
The tarpaulins will provide essential protection from the elements for vulnerable individuals with disabilities.
