The Parliament of Sierra Leone has expressed condolences following the death of Hon. John Charles Conteh, an APC lawmaker representing Bombali District, who died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
In a public notice dated September 16, Parliament’s Clerk, together with lawmakers and staff, said the institution was mourning with Conteh’s family, the All People’s Congress and his constituents.
Conteh’s death was announced in the early hours of Tuesday, according to Parliament. The notice did not provide details about the cause of death.
Parliament said the lawmaker was part of the current Parliament and had first been elected in 2018. Official parliamentary records confirm Conteh represented Bombali as an APC lawmaker in the Fifth Parliament and continued serving in the Sixth Parliament.
Records from Parliament also show Conteh participating in proceedings during the current parliamentary term.
The parliamentary notice said Conteh served on several committees during his time in the legislature and contributed to the passage of laws aimed at supporting Sierra Leone’s development.
Parliament said it was extending its condolences despite being on a prolonged recess, joining Conteh’s family, party and constituents in mourning his death.
The APC and Conteh’s family had also announced his death on September 15, describing him as a public servant and representative of the people of Bombali. No cause of death was disclosed in the announcement.
