The Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) in Parliament, Honourable Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, on Friday 28th October 2022 moved a Motion for Parliament conditions to summon the Minister of Finance together with the Bank Governor for them to update them and the public on the country’s current economic.

This came as a result of persistent public outcry about the country’s economic status which is negatively affecting the lives and living conditions.

According to the NGC Leader, the Minister, Bank Governor, and relevant stakeholders need to explain who is acting plain the measures they have put in place to mitigate the shocks to the country’s economy which he explained is necessary at this point and time when the exchange rate creasing if not on a weekly but bi-weekly.

Opposition Whip in
Parliament who is the Leader of the Opposition, Honourable Hassan Abdoul Sesay, reminded the House about his persistent calls on Parliament to summon the Bank Governor for him to explain some of his Policies relating to the country’s economy but nothing has been done.

He maintained that the current economic situation is negatively affecting businesses across the country and the consumers feel the brunt of the hardship with a sharp increase in prices of basic commodities, adding that Parliament needs to act this time very fast in
the interest of the people they are representing.

Hon. Sesay s said during the debate on the re-denomination of the Leones, they did argue about the expected negative effect based on the economic status of the country, noting the global economic threat that is currently affecting the country and other countries together with the war in Russia and Ukraine.

He maintained that the Bank Governor’s policy on the re-denomination of the Leone has failed, and that is why they need to invite him to explain not only to Parliament but also to the public.
