Sierra Leone Parliament Summons MPs for High-stakes Hearings

The Office of the Clerk of Parliament has issued an official public notice inviting all Members of Parliament to a high-stakes pre-legislative hearing.

The session is scheduled to take place on Monday, 9th November 2026, at 10:00 AM in Committee Room One at the Parliament Building in Freetown.

Lawmakers have been strongly urged to attend promptly as the house prepares to deliberate on three major legislative items: The Military Veterans Agency Act 2026.

The National Explosives Regulatory Authority Act 2026, and The Mental Health Act 2026.

The upcoming hearing marks an essential step in pre-legislative scrutiny, allowing members to review, debate, and shape the bills before they officially progress through formal parliamentary readings.

The deliberations are expected to provide lawmakers with an opportunity to examine the proposed legislation, consider its potential implications and identify areas that may require further clarification or amendment.

The outcome of the hearing could help strengthen the bills before their formal consideration by Parliament, particularly given their relevance to military veterans’ welfare, the regulation of explosives and mental health services in Sierra Leone.

As Parliament continues to exercise its legislative and oversight responsibilities, the hearing will be an important opportunity for lawmakers to ensure that the proposed laws are carefully examined and reflect the country’s legal, institutional and public interest priorities.
