The Chairman of Water Resources Committee in Parliament, Hon. Lahai Marrah has asserted that 85 percent of plastic water sold in the country is not safe to drink.

This came up during the debate on the agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and Grafton Investment Sierra Leone that was ratified by MP’s.

Honourable Lahai blamed the Electricity Water Regulations Commission (EWRC) for not doing enough to regulate water companies in the country.

He added that the Commission has met to address this issue but facing some challenges, noting their focus is more on electricity.

Deliberating on the issue, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Abass Bundu said that the proliferation of water companies and impure water consumption have led people to get sick and then diagnosed with malaria and typhoid.

The Speaker further urged the Water Committee to summon all water companies across the country.
