Police Intensify Child Protection Awareness Campaign in Lungi Schools

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Lungi Division, has intensified efforts to promote child protection through a school sensitisation programme focusing on domestic violence, sexual offences and early marriage.

The awareness-raising exercise was held on Monday, 26 October 2026, at Afro International World Bridges Junior and Senior Secondary School in Kasongha, Lungi, where pupils were educated on the dangers of abuse and harmful practices affecting children and young people.

During the engagement, police officers explained the consequences of domestic violence, the seriousness of sexual offences and the risks associated with early marriage. The programme aimed to equip pupils with relevant knowledge, promote responsible behaviour and encourage them to recognise and speak out against abuse.

The session also allowed pupils to engage directly with the officers, raising questions and concerns about their safety and well-being. The officers responded to the issues raised, providing an opportunity for further discussion on child protection and personal safety.

The initiative reflects the Lungi Division’s efforts to strengthen police-community relations, raise awareness of children’s rights and encourage cooperation between law enforcement, schools and communities in preventing abuse.

Through continued school-based sensitisation, the Sierra Leone Police seeks to promote safer learning environments and ensure that children and young people are better informed about their rights and the importance of reporting harmful practices.
