The Sierra Leone Police has made efforts to strengthen community safety and policing effectiveness in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Region, which have received a boost from the deployment of 74 newly trained police recruits across key divisions, including Kenema.
The officers, deployed on Saturday, 18 July 2026, have completed the first phase of their basic police training and are expected to reinforce security operations and improve police presence in communities.
Welcoming the recruits, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Kenema Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Emmanuel Kpulun, said their arrival comes at a critical time, when strengthening community engagement and crime prevention remain top priorities.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Police Commander for the East, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joe Kamanda Gbongay, CSP Kpulun commended the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, for prioritising manpower development to enhance policing across the region.
He emphasised that the newly deployed officers are expected not only to enforce the law but also to build trust with the communities they serve. He urged them to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights while carrying out their duties.
CSP Kpulun further highlighted the importance of community policing, encouraging the recruits to actively engage residents, support local initiatives, and contribute meaningfully to maintaining peace and public order.
In response, the recruits expressed gratitude to the police leadership for the opportunity to serve, pledging to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.
The deployment is expected to improve operational efficiency across the seven police divisions in the Eastern Region, strengthen community-police relations, and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.
