The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has directed the All People’s Congress (APC) to publish the complete lists of candidates for its constituency elections within 72 hours, following concerns raised by APC member Hon. Osman Abdul Timbo, Esq., over the handling of unopposed candidates and the Commission’s intervention in the party’s internal electoral process.

In its directive, the PPRC instructed the APC to make the constituency candidate lists available both electronically and in hard copy at all district party offices nationwide within the stipulated period to ensure transparency and accessibility.

The Commission further ruled that any candidate who is unopposed for a constituency position shall be deemed duly elected, and no election shall be conducted for such positions. It also ordered that constituency elections must not take place in any area where ward-level petitions or related disputes remain unresolved until those matters are addressed.

To strengthen transparency in subsequent lower-level elections, the PPRC directed the APC Secretariat to publish both candidate and delegate lists at least seven days before the scheduled date of any election.

According to the Commission, although the APC Constitution does not expressly provide for the treatment of unopposed candidates or the publication of candidate lists, its decision was guided by the provisions of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, and the Public Elections Act, 2022.

The directive is intended to promote fairness, transparency and orderly conduct throughout the APC’s internal electoral process while ensuring compliance with established democratic and legal standards.
