President Bio, First Lady Showcase Private Farm Investments in Bonthe to Boost Feed Salone
President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio have visited their private farms in Bonthe District to promote agricultural investment and encourage Sierra Leoneans to support the government’s Feed Salone Initiative.
In a statement on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the First Lady said the visit included a symbolic harvest of rice cultivated across hundreds of acres, followed by inspections of their fish farm and livestock facilities.
She described the visit as an example of the role individuals and families can play in advancing the country’s agricultural development, stressing that achieving food self-sufficiency requires collective responsibility.

“If we, as a family, can farm, every Sierra Leonean can,” she said, urging citizens to embrace agricultural production and support efforts to reduce the country’s dependence on imported food.
The First Lady also called on organisations, government agencies and private-sector actors to invest in agriculture, noting that broader participation would be essential to strengthening domestic food production.

She encouraged Sierra Leoneans to adopt the principle of growing what they eat and eating what they grow, in support of the Feed Salone Initiative’s goal of improving food security and promoting local agricultural production.
The visit highlights the President and First Lady’s call for greater public and private-sector involvement in agriculture as Sierra Leone pursues food self-sufficiency.
