President Bio Invites Guinea’s Doumbouya to Lungi Investment Summit During UNGA 18 Talks
President Julius Maada Bio has invited Guinea’s President General Mamady Doumbouya to attend the inaugural West Africa Integration and Investment Summit (WAIIS), during bilateral talks between the two leaders in New York on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting, held at the United Nations Headquarters, focused on strengthening relations between Sierra Leone and Guinea, with discussions centred on regional peace and security, economic cooperation and closer ties between the two neighbouring countries.
President Bio formally invited President Doumbouya to the WAIIS, scheduled for early 2027 at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Lungi.
The summit is being championed by President Bio in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, with a focus on mobilising private investment for cross-border infrastructure, energy and trade.
Following the meeting, President Bio said the two countries had committed to strengthening their ties for the benefit of their peoples.
The discussions also covered areas of shared interest between the two countries, including border management, security cooperation and economic relations. Sierra Leone and Guinea share a long-standing relationship and a common border, making cooperation between the two countries important to regional stability and cross-border economic activity.
President Doumbouya, who is attending the UN General Assembly in New York, expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation with Sierra Leone, according to the report on the bilateral meeting.
The engagement forms part of President Bio’s wider diplomatic activities during UNGA 81, where he has held meetings with international leaders and development partners. The Office of the President has also highlighted Sierra Leone’s participation in high-level discussions on development, investment and international cooperation during the General Assembly.
