President Bio Unveils Six-Point Peace and Unity Agenda at National Conference in Freetown
President Julius Maada Bio has proposed six measures aimed at strengthening peace, national unity and social cohesion in Sierra Leone, calling for renewed efforts to translate the country’s commitment to peace into practical national action.
The President outlined the proposals while delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference in Freetown on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Speaking on the theme, “Sierra Leone’s Next Chapter of Peace and National Unity,” President Bio proposed the establishment of a National Peace and Cohesion Action Framework and a Peace Basket Fund to support peacebuilding initiatives across the country.
He also called for the strengthening of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee and the development of a Code of Conduct for Peaceful Elections to promote political dialogue and encourage peaceful electoral processes.

The President further proposed the introduction of peace and civic education in schools, alongside the establishment of a National Peace Week to promote public awareness and strengthen citizens’ commitment to peaceful coexistence.
President Bio said the proposals were intended to turn the country’s commitment to peace into meaningful national action, with an emphasis on unity and social cohesion.
He also commended former President Ernest Bai Koroma and other former national leaders for attending the conference, describing their participation as significant to the national effort to promote peace.
The President further praised the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion for organising the conference and delivering what he described as a successful opening ceremony.
The conference brings together national stakeholders to discuss peace, unity and social cohesion as Sierra Leone continues to pursue a shared national path forward.
