The President of the republic of Sierra Leone, Brigadier Julius Maada Bio (Rtd) has on a BBC interview reacted to the death of one of the opposition (APC) supporters Hassan Dumbuya aka Evangelist Samson, who was allegedly shot by the Police on a cross fire while executing their duties.

BBC reporter Thomas Nadie interviewed Maada Bio on accusations of Human Rights abuses in his government. The President responded saying, his government is keen to upholding human rights principles. He added that, he had been very conscious with his obligations to the International community with regards to upholding human rights and his government has always been working in the interest of protecting the fundamental human rights of its citizens.

“..as a mater of fact I have been very very conscious of our obligations to International human rights…” President Bio mentioned.

Thomas Nadie, BBC report further probed the President on the death of opposition supporter Hassan Dumbuya popularly known as evangelist Samson. Responding to this, the President reminded the reporter that he has a duty to protect his people. He added that he paid attention to the nation’s development and not little braggers.

“..I pay attention to development of the country and little braggers that make noise on the social media will never attract my attention…” President Bio continued.

Further explaining to the probe question, President Bio disclosed that he came to know Evangelist Samson after his death and undoubtedly furthered that Evangelist Samson is not an opponent to him.

“…I only came to know about Evangelist Samson now, so I cannot say he is an opponent…” His Excellency added.

When Thomas Nadie further probed on the killings and raids of police and security forces, President Bio said those who were caught are under investigation and confirmed none is dead. In the case of Evangelist Samson, President Bio reported that he heard it was on an exchange of guns that evangelist Samson sustained injuries that resulted to his bleeding to death.

“… We were also reliably informed that he wasn’t even closer to the scene of event..” Thomas Nadie asked Bio. He disclosed that he wasn’t at the crime scene and cannot give first hand information about the killing and that he cannot categorical statement on the said event.
