The reports circulating on social media claiming that Amadu Koita has died at the Pademba Road Prison have been confirmed as false.

According to credible information reaching this outlet, Koita is alive and was relocated from his previous detention cell to another facility several months ago.

Amadu Koita Makalo, a former soldier and ex-bodyguard to former President Ernest Bai Koroma, was found guilty of treason and related offences in July 2024.

Authorities allege that Koita, along with his associates, orchestrated an attempt to overthrow the administration of President Julius Maada Bio.

The charges stem from the events of November 26, when armed assailants carried out coordinated attacks on key security installations, including military armouries, barracks, prisons, and police stations. The attacks led to violent confrontations with security forces, resulting in the deaths of twenty-one individuals.

The incident also saw the escape of hundreds of inmates before order was eventually restored by authorities.

In connection with the case, Koita has reportedly been sentenced to over 300 years in prison.

Authorities continue to urge the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on official sources for accurate information.
