SALPOST Workers Stage Nationwide Strike Over One Year of Unpaid Salaries
Lamin Sheik Kamara Staff of the Sierra Leone Postal Services (SALPOST) have today launched a nationwide strike in protest over what they describe as a full year of unpaid salaries.
Dozens of workers assembled outside the SALPOST headquarters in Freetown early this morning, refusing to resume duties until the outstanding payments are addressed.
The protesting staff say the prolonged salary backlog has pushed them and their families into severe financial hardship.
“We have been patient for too long. People are struggling to feed their families. We cannot continue working without pay,” one employee told reporters.
The industrial action has already disrupted postal services across the country, causing delays in mail delivery and other essential operations. Members of the public who rely on SALPOST for communication, parcels, and official documentation services have raised concerns about the impact of the shutdown.
As of the time of filing this report, SALPOST management has not issued any official statement regarding the strike or the claims of a year-long salary delay. It also remains unclear whether negotiations between staff representatives and management are underway.
