Minister of Works and Public Assets Dr Dennis M. Sandy has officially handed over a newly completed residential facility for judges and magistrates serving in Kailahun District, in a move aimed at improving accommodation for judicial officers in the eastern region.

The facility was handed over on Thursday, 15 October 2026, on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio.

The new accommodation is intended to address longstanding housing challenges faced by judicial officers posted to the district and provide them with a more suitable living environment as they carry out their duties.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Sandy said the project reflected the Government’s commitment to improving the conditions of service for judicial officers and strengthening the justice sector.

He emphasised that providing decent accommodation for judges and magistrates was part of wider efforts to support the administration of justice and improve public service delivery.

The facility is equipped with modern amenities intended to provide comfort and security for its occupants. Its completion is expected to improve the living conditions of judicial officers serving in Kailahun District.

The handover forms part of the Government’s broader justice sector reform agenda, which seeks to strengthen institutions and improve the delivery of justice across Sierra Leone.

The project also highlights the importance of providing adequate facilities for judicial personnel, particularly those serving outside the capital, where accommodation challenges can affect working conditions.
