The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Sierra Leone on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, held a handover ceremony for a consignment of high-quality Saudi dates presented as a gift from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the people of Sierra Leone.

The event brought together government officials, diplomatic representatives, and key stakeholders to witness the symbolic presentation of the gift, which officials described as a reflection of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

In a statement read during the ceremony, the Saudi Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Saud Al Musaed, welcomed guests and described the gesture as a mark of goodwill from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the people of Sierra Leone.

He expressed sincere appreciation to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for what he termed their generous support, noting that the gesture underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and strengthening bilateral relations.

The Ambassador also commended President Julius Maada Bio for his continued efforts in enhancing the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.

According to him, the gift forms part of the Kingdom’s broader efforts to support vulnerable communities and promote the values of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual assistance.

He expressed optimism that the consignment would benefit many families across Sierra Leone.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Al Musaed thanked the Ministry of Social Welfare, led by Hon. Mrs. Melrose Karminty, for facilitating the receipt and planned distribution of the consignment. He also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as other relevant institutions, for their collaboration.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Minister Karminty welcomed the Saudi delegation and commended the enduring relationship between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia.

She also acknowledged the role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s continued support, which she said would go a long way in assisting vulnerable families across the country.

The ceremony concluded with renewed commitments from both sides to further strengthen diplomatic and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.
