The Minister for Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has congratulated the mayor elect for the Freetown City Council (FCC) Mayor Yvone Aki-Sawyer of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party for a successful re-election.

The Minister also commended Mohamed Gento Kamara the mayoral aspirant for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and a tight contender to Mayor Yvone Aki-Sawyer.

The mayor elect is form the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) in the just concluded June 24th general elections in the country.

In the tightly contested mayoral election, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr-mayor elect emerged victorious securing 51% of the votes with a total of 288,683 votes. Her main challenger, Mohamed Gento Kamara, put up a strong fight, garnering 48% of the votes with a total of 268,213 votes.

Sengeh expressed his thanks to Kamara for putting up a great fight although he was not successful in the race.

“Freetown loves you Mohamed Gento Kamara. Thanks for a great fight. Congrats to Yvone Aki-Sawyerr on her retention of the FCC mayor,” he stated.
