Sierra Leone’s Minister of Justice, Hon. Alpha Sesay on Monday 17th February 2025, joined environmental lawyers, experts and activist from across Africa at the weeklong Environmental and Natural Resources Rights and Protection conference.

Sesay during his opening remarks noted that Environmental and Natural Resources Rights and Protection is a human rights issue that requires the collective commitment of various stakeholders.

He further underscored the importance of these discussions, adding that they are happening at a time when his country Sierra Leone is in the middle of a committed reform process.

According to him, Sierra Leone through these reforms will use legal empowerment to put the law in the hands of the people as part of an effort to protect their rights, which he said includes environment rights.
