Deborah Sorie Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has stated publicly that Sierra Leone has deported individuals who committed crimes to several countries, including the United States.
Speaking on the AVY Wake Salone programme, Dr. Sengeh explained that deportation is an international practice governed by a country’s responsibility to its nationals. He stressed that no nation can refuse to receive its own citizens, regardless of their criminal record.
According to Dr. Sengeh, it is a global practice that when individuals commit crimes abroad and are deported, their home countries must accept them.
He emphasized that Sierra Leone has consistently upheld this responsibility, noting that the country has deported convicted individuals to various nations, including the U.S.
He added that deportation is a reciprocal international process and should be understood within the context of global migration and law enforcement cooperation.
