Police investigators in Freetown-East have received training on criminal law, investigative procedures and court processes as the Sierra Leone Police seeks to improve the handling of cases and the presentation of evidence in court.

The training was delivered by the Head of the Sierra Leone Police Legal and Justice Support Department, ACP Joan Bull Kamara, at Ross Road Police Station on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.

During the session, ACP Bull Kamara advised investigators to understand the legal requirements of offences before charging suspects. She also stressed the importance of maintaining accurate case files, following proper investigative procedures and consulting the department for legal guidance when necessary.

Freetown-East Regional Commander AIG Brima Kanneh encouraged investigators to strengthen their working relationship with police prosecutors and take full responsibility for the cases assigned to them.

He said investigators must have a thorough understanding of their cases to ensure they can present evidence clearly and confidently during court proceedings.

The lecture also provided an opportunity for police personnel to raise concerns and seek answers on issues relating to investigations, legal procedures and professional responsibilities.

Freetown-East Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Aminata Norman delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating ACP Bull Kamara for sharing her expertise and helping to improve the knowledge and professional skills of investigators.

The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen police personnel’s understanding of the law and improve the quality of investigations and court preparation.
