Sierra Leone has achieved another major anti-corruption milestone, recording a 66% score in the Control of Corruption indicator on the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Fiscal Year 2027 Scorecard.

The result marks the nation’s ninth consecutive year of passing the crucial governance metric since 2018.

The release of the latest MCC scorecard highlights sustained momentum in Sierra Leone’s institutional reforms, maintaining an impressive nine-year average score of approximately 76% in anti-corruption performance.

The MCC Control of Corruption indicator evaluates the extent to which public power is exercised for private gain, measuring both petty and grand corruption alongside the state’s institutional capacity to prevent and punish illicit practices.

According to ACC, over the past nine years, Sierra Leone’s consistent performance above the 50% passing threshold reflects structural efforts to enhance transparency, streamline government accountability, and empower anti-corruption mechanisms.

In addition to the Control of Corruption pass, the commission added that Sierra Leone demonstrated solid performance across several key governance and institutional performance metrics on the FY2027 scorecard.

”Overall, Sierra Leone passed 11 of the 20 evaluated MCC indicators for FY2027, up from nine in the previous cycle, reflecting gains across governance and economic policy areas.” the Commission said.

As Sierra Leone continues to engage with the Millennium Challenge Corporation on ongoing compact developments and bilateral funding initiatives, national stakeholders view the latest scorecard as both validation of ongoing reforms and a call to maintain momentum in building resilient, transparent public institutions.
