The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is mourning the loss of two media professionals, David Williams and Emily Koroma, who died in a fatal car accident on the Kambia highway this morning, May 27, 2025.

SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla expressed his profound grief, stating, “I am devastated by the tragic news… that claimed the lives of two promising media and development professionals: David Williams, a camera operator with SLBC, and Emily Koroma, a long-serving intern with BAN.”

Nasralla described Williams as a “calm, committed, and always professional” individual, noting that Williams had recently filmed him for an SLBC interview and covered the SLAJ Presidential Debate on May 16. “His loss is a painful blow to our media family,” Nasralla added.

Emily Koroma, who had recently secured a position as a finance officer with CCYA, was temporarily assisting BAN. Nasralla recalled a meeting just yesterday at BAN’s office for the EU/BBC Media Project, where Koroma was “full of life and dedication” while taking photos of the meeting.

In addition to the fatalities, Ibrahim Samura, Acting News Editor at SLBC, and Abu Brima, Country Director of NMJD, sustained injuries in the accident and are currently receiving treatment. President Nasralla conveyed his concern for their well-being, wishing them “strength and a full recovery.”

President Nasralla extended his heartfelt condolences to SLBC, BAN, and NMJD, as well as to the families of the deceased. “Please know that you are not alone in your grief. We mourn with you, and we stand with you in this time of sorrow,” he affirmed.
