The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), Alfred Kamanda Esq., has raised concerns over what he described as an abuse of power after some lawyers were allegedly prevented from accessing the venue of the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The development occurred as members of the legal fraternity gathered for the much-anticipated AGM, which was expected to include discussions and the election of new leadership for the association.
Alfred Kamanda Esq., the Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), questioned the decision to restrict access to the AGM venue in a viral video circulating on social media, arguing that there was no court order preventing the meeting or stopping members from attending.
“There is no court injunction, yet they have still prevented us from accessing the venue of the Sierra Leone Bar Association AGM. This is how power is abused,” Kamanda said in the video.
The alleged restriction has sparked debate among lawyers, with some expressing concern over the involvement of security personnel in an internal matter involving the country’s premier legal professional body.
The disruption adds to growing tensions surrounding the 2026 SLBA leadership elections, which have attracted significant attention within the legal community.
The circumstances surrounding the decision to restrict access and the authority under which it was made remain unclear, as members await further clarification from relevant stakeholders.
