The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has conducted a two-day leadership workshop at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy aimed at improving leadership skills, operational effectiveness, and strategic planning in line with the National Threat Assessment 2026–2027.
Opening the workshop, ACP Brima Kamara Esq. reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to professional development, noting that the success of the training would be measured by how participants apply the knowledge gained to improve leadership, service delivery, and operational performance.
Delivering the keynote address, AIG Brima Kanneh, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), emphasized the importance of effective leadership, accountability, and decision-making in strengthening public confidence, preventing crime, and improving community relations.
He said the workshop supports the ongoing transformation of the SLP under its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which seeks to build a more professional, accountable, and community-focused police service.
AIG Kanneh highlighted key areas of focus, including operational leadership, command and control, intelligence-led policing, discipline, strategic planning, resource management, operational readiness, and inter-agency coordination.
He urged commanders to lead by example, stressing that leadership is not only about rank and authority but also about responsibility, integrity, and professionalism. He encouraged participants to apply the lessons from the workshop to improve coordination, accountability, and service delivery within the police force.
The training brought together Support Officers, Heads of the Operations Support Division, Regional Coordinators, and Operations Officers from across Sierra Leone as part of ongoing efforts by the SLP to equip officers with the skills needed to respond effectively to modern security challenges.
